Jumbo Spot Prawns have an excellent flavor and are the largest prawns fished in Alaskan waters. They are the mature females that have transitioned from the male phase of their life cycle. Because they are at the peak of maturity, jumbo prawns often carry visible roe (the bright orange-red mass under the tail). The roe is edible and prized in some cuisines.

Federal Express

 

We ship all of our perishable products with Federal Express Mon - Wed for Tue - Fri deliveries.  Federal Express must have a physical address for delivery.  If you are not at home upon delivery Federal Express drivers will leave your package at the door except for apartments.  Refreeze or refrigerate your seafood immediately upon delivery.

 

Our perishable products are shipped frozen and packed in insulated shipping boxes with 1-2 gel ice packs.  The gel ice maintains the product's integrity and quality even if some thawing occurs in the process of shipping.

 

We ship all of our non-perishable products with USPS Flat Rate Shipping Mon - Fri.  Delivery typically takes 3-5 business days. 

 

During the hotter summer months all orders containing a hot-smoke fillet or cold-smoke fillet must ship overnight.

We offer free shipping on orders over $199 excluding Alaska and Hawaii and will ship 2 day Express. For orders shipping to Alaska and Hawaii over $199 shipping is $45 flat. 

 

For orders under $199 shipping is $28.99 for flat rate shipping excluding Alaska and Hawaii. For orders shipping to Alaska and Hawaii under $199 shipping is $65 flat rate. 

 

Shipping rates are for a single address.  If an order is places for multiple delivery addresses shipping will be calculated based on the order value being delivered to each address.

About Jumbo Spot Prawns

Jumbo Spot Prawns are the largest size grade we offer. They are the mature females that have transitioned from the male phase of their life cycle (Spot Prawns are protandric hermaphrodites: they start life as males and change to females at maturity). Because they are at the peak of maturity, jumbo prawns often carry visible roe, the bright orange-red mass under the tail. The roe is edible and prized in some cuisines. If you would rather not have roe, choose our regular Spot Prawn size instead.

Alaska Spot Prawns

Alaska Spot Prawns (Pandalus platyceros) are technically shrimp despite the common 'prawn' name. They are the largest shrimp in Alaskan waters, harvested from the cold, deep inlets of Southeast Alaska using small-scale baited traps dropped to depths of 300 to 600 feet. Spot Prawns are caught in relatively small quantities, which keeps them seasonal and quietly precious.

On the Plate

The meat is firm, almost lobster-like, with a clean natural sweetness. We harvest, sort, and freeze within hours of catch to lock in flavor and texture. Jumbo Spot Prawns shine grilled, skewered, or butter-poached whole. Sauté with garlic and white wine, drop into a paella, or serve chilled on a seafood platter.

All Taku Fisheries seafood is wild-caught in Alaska. We work with independent Alaskan fishermen who bring daily catch directly to our Juneau dock, where it's processed in-house at our waterfront facility within hours of being landed.

All fresh and frozen products ship 1-2 days via FedEx in an insulated layer with one to two gel ice packs rated for 48 hours. Shipping materials are recyclable. Choose your shipping date at checkout when you are available to accept the package.

Always wild-caught. We do not sell farmed seafood. Every salmon, halibut, cod, crab, and shrimp we ship is harvested from the pristine waters of Alaska.

Our flash-frozen products can be stored in the freezer for up to 12 months without losing quality. Once thawed, use within 2-3 days and keep refrigerated.
